The full form of dvi cables is digital visual interface cables. It was released in 1999 primarily for carrying uncompressed digital video data to a display. There are countless cables out on the open market today designed for different features. The DVI cable provides high visual quality on such devices as flat-screen computer monitors and other output devices.
It was pretty much used for computer monitors but now they are highly used for television sets. As DVI format is pretty popular with computer graphics card manufacturers, most modern computers have built-in DVI cable connectors. As an option for DVI connectivity, a VGA output port is also present in a standard computer. There are three DVI formats available for use with DVI connections- DVI-D, DVI-A and DVI-I. It is also used for video graphic cards and can be used to carry an analog signal. By using DVI cable versus VGA cable, there is no digital conversion that happens with a VGA cable.
DVI cable does not carry audio signals, so is not as diverse as the HDMI cable. It can, however, be used in applications requiring an HDMI cable for video signals. DVI cable transports the digital signal without converting to analog and back again. In recent years, most television sets and other devices have come standard with the DVI connection, making analog more obsolete and video quality better. DVI cables can be connected between an analog source and digital display with the help of VGA to DVI-D converter.
